This is the longest par four at Whitmoor and playing uphill makes it even longer. Make sure you know which level the pin is on before hitting your approach or you could have a three-tier putt facing you when you get to the green. Par is a good score here.

Take less club than the yardage indicates on this par three. Hitting the green with your tee shot is imperative. To the left, you will find yourself in the tall rough, hoping to get on the green. To the right, it will be very hard to get the ball close from the bunkers because the green runs away from you. Aim to the right of the pin as the slope of the green will take your ball to the left toward the hole.

A long iron or fairway wood will put you in position to hit this green with a short iron. Water guards the fairway and green on the right, out-of-bounds down the left side. You will want to stay below the hole on this par four as a steep back-to-front pitch makes a putt from behind the hole tough to get close.

Playing to the left side of the fairway gives you an opportunity to see the pin on your second shot. Water and trees down the right side make this a tough hole for the "slicer." The large green is very steep from back to front. Your best bet is to stay below the hole on your approach. NOTE to BIG hitters ÿ by taking your drive down the right side of the trees, you can reach the green if you hit a bomb (with the wind behind you!)

You are three good shots away from the green as you stand on the tee of this dogleg left par five. The second shot is key on this hole. Watch out for the two hidden bunkers on the left that make even the strongest players think twice about cutting the comer on this bending hole.

Aim left of the fairway bunkers for your best angle on this deceptively difficult par four. Most players will have a mid to long iron for their approach onto this two-tiered green. By hitting the correct tier with your second shot, you could save one or more strokes.

A design change on this hole in 2000 made it one of the best in St. Louis. A new fairway bunker is ready to gather errant tee shots that go left. The out-of-bounds down the right side makes accuracy important on your drive. From the top of the hill, you have a "risk-reward" proposition -- to lay up or go for it in two. A fairway bunker will collect a less-than-perfect effort, making par very difficult. But a good second shot could lead to an eagle.

This is a good par three where a mid-to-long iron can put you in the middle of the green, or out of play. The cart path running just to the right of the green comes into play a lot on this hole. Because of it, players who are looking to bail out away from the water hazard down the left side often hit the path and go flying into the woods on the right. Just hit the green off the tee and you won't have any problems - advice that's easier said than done!

Placement of your drive is of the utmost importance on this par four over water. A shot that appears to split the fairway can end up left behind some trees because of the right-to-left slope in the fairway. Your best bet is right of center, leaving a short to mid iron into a large green that's surrounded by water on three sides.

This uphill par four plays a lot longer than it looks. Just getting over the water does not solve all of your problems. Out-of-bounds sneaks up near the cart path on the right and runs all the way up the left side. A four-tier green awaits your second shot. A slope on the left of the green will gather any wayward shots and take them off of the course or at least make saving par nearly impossible.

A definite three-shot par five. A 250-yard drive leaves you with an uphill shot of about 270 yards. With out-of-bounds down the left and a ball-swallowing lake on the right, an accurate tee shot is very important. A large undulating green waits at the top of the hill. Be on the correct tier or a three-putt is likely.

This par three looks pretty straightforward á until you make it to the green, where you will see three separate sections -- a swale in the back right, a plateau in the middle, and a valley on the left. Getting your tee shot into the correct section of the green will make the difference between a birdie putt and a tap-in bogey.

Depending on where your drive ends up, this is either a definite three-shot par five or a reachable chance for eagle. You must make it past the tree on the left to have a shot at the green or the fairway on this dogleg left. A right-hander hitting a little draw around the tree could find him/herself inside 200 yards to the gigantic green, which has many undulations that keep even the shortest putts from being gimmees.

This is a picturesque yet treacherous par three. Astute club selection is key on this downhill shot. Subtract a club if the pin is on the left and add at least one club if the pin is on the right. With water in the front and a straight down drop on the back, hitting the green in one is the only shot you have at making a par.

You will get a shot back here. Out-of-bounds lines both sides but rarely comes into play. A good drive gives you a low-to-mid iron into an ample green. The slight uphill of the green might cause you to hit an extra club on your approach. There are some tricky pin placements on this green, particularly in the back right.

A legitimate par five. Very few can hit this green in two. Out-of-bounds skirts both sides of the fairway. The hole rolls a little right to left. You are better off on the right side of the fairway on your second shot. The big tree on the left catches more than its share of balls that drift to that side. A steep back-to-front slope on the green makes it important to stay below the hole on your approach.

Another downhill par three. This hole, more than any other, is affected by the wind. If there is no wind, subtracting a club is the right play. But on a windy day, you can add up to three clubs and still come up short in the creek that fronts this wide green. Aim for the middle of the green and get your par.

This is a great finishing hole, a dogleg par four that is a tester. A long iron or fairway wood off the tee is the right play for most golfers. A precise shot is important because one that's too short will place you near trees on the left blocking your shot to the green, and a shot too far will force you to contend with the overhanging trees on the right. A three-tier green awaits. Make sure you read your putt carefully, for each tier breaks a little differently -- but not always in the direction you might expect.
